Niverville, MB – Last September, a survey was provided to residents of the Town of Niverville to better understand what they feel the community needs to continue to thrive as a vibrant hub in Southeast MB. Once this survey had closed, the collected information was shared with Council and staff during the 2025 Planning Session to help provide context for future planning.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to fill out this survey”, said Myron Dyck, Mayor of Niverville. “The information collected during this survey will help us in future planning, decision-making, and where to direct our efforts in advocacy, especially in the area of seeing businesses bring greater amenities to the community. I also want to commend our community members for the effort they put into looking after one another.  As long as we continue to do this, we will always have that small-town feel.”

From this survey, Town and Council was excited to hear where survey respondents suggest that we are succeeding:

  • Survey responses indicated that a majority of respondents are proud to live in Niverville, have no plan to move, and would recommend it to their family and friends. Survey respondents also indicated that they live in Niverville because of the small-town feel that takes them away from the noise and tension of city life, and the safety Niverville provides.
  • Many respondents felt that the benefits of working in Niverville, as opposed to Winnipeg, were a shorter commute and more time with their family (37%), a cheaper commute (35%), and the ability to serve their community with their expertise (15%).
  • Survey respondents said their top 7 choices for new or expanded businesses were retail stores (9%), casual dining restaurants (9%), grocery stores (9%), daycares (8%), bowling/arcade (8%), Bakery (7%), and butcher shops (6%).
  • When asked what was one thing they would like to see stay the same about Niverville, a majority of responses mentioned a variation of keeping Niverville’s small-town feel.

As well, the survey suggested some exciting objectives that the Town of Niverville can continue to work towards:

  • When asked what they felt the top 3 barriers were in the way of the average family choosing Niverville as their primary residence, respondents suggested lack of amenities, that Niverville was too far from city hubs, and that families were unaware of Niverville as an option.
  • When asked what they felt were the top 3 reasons why people chose to work in Winnipeg instead of Niverville, the answers were: a larger variety of jobs in the city (42%), a higher average wage (22%), and geography closer to a majority of customers (13%).
  • When asked why they feel people may continue to work in Winnipeg instead of Niverville when the equivalent job is offered in both locations, they answered: loyalty to their current employer (22%), the perception of the same job paying less (21%), and that starting over at a new workplace is too big a hassle (19%).
  • The top 3 reasons that business owners who live in Niverville operate out of Winnipeg are the distance from customers (27%), that Niverville does not have the right buildings or location (17%), and less access to a qualified workforce (15%).
  • Many responses, when asked what they would change if they could change one thing about Niverville, mentioned some variation of greater amenities and services for young families to enjoy.

The survey received 377 responses. Of these, 372 said they lived in Niverville, and 241 said they moved to Niverville in the past ten years.
