HELP DEFEAT COVID-19 BY FOLLOWING THE 3P’S

1 - PROTECT YOURSELF

 

Wash your hands frequently and don’t touch your face, nose, eyes or mouth with unwashed hands

 

Residents are encouraged to take common prevention measures, including regular handwashing with soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds. Make sure to dry your hands thoroughly. You can also use an alcohol-based hand cleanser if your hands are not visibly dirty. It is especially important to clean your hands:

  • after coughing or sneezing
  • when caring for a sick person
  • before, during and after you prepare food
  • before eating
  • after toilet use
  • when hands are visibly dirty

Symptoms of COVID-19

Symptoms range from mild (e.g., fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat) to severe (e.g., shortness of breath and breathing difficulties). While many people will develop only mild symptoms, some groups appear to be more vulnerable to COVID-19. Those at higher risk typically develop more serious, even fatal, symptoms such as pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome and kidney failure. High risk groups include those:

  • 60 years of age and older
    • living with chronic health conditions (e.g. diabetes, heart, renal or chronic lung conditions)
  • with weakened immune systems (e.g. cancer)

Symptoms of COVID-19 or other coronaviruses may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to the virus.

Distance yourself from others in public and avoid touching for greetings such as handshakes

 

Practice social distancing when out in public (both indoors and outdoors) – stay a minimum of 2 metres (6 feet) apart. Parents are asked to remind their teenagers to adhere to the social distancing requirement when they are out in public, as the Town has received correspondence from concerned residents who have witnessed a lack of adherence to social distancing rules. Residents are reminded to practice social distancing when using the services of local businesses and in public spaces.

 

Avoid non-essential gatherings and cancel or postpone non-essential travel

 

Stay home as much as possible.

 Shop wisely – use caution when out and whenever possible, try and use online shopping and home delivery. Please remember that panic buying is not needed.

 Use technology to keep in touch.

 

2 - PROTECT YOUR LOVED ONES

 

Cover your cough or sneeze

 

You should cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, or you can cough or sneeze into your sleeve. Throw used tissues in the garbage and immediately wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand cleanser.

 

Disinfect frequently used surfaces

 

It is very important to regularly clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that people commonly touch (e.g., door handles/knobs, railings, light switches, etc.). In addition, objects frequently touched and then brought into the home should be cleaned, including grocery supplies such as produce. 

 Cleaning removes germsand dirt using soap and warm water. Disinfecting kills germs using diluted bleach (one part bleach to nine parts water), alcohol solutions with at least 70 per cent alcohol or EPA-registered household disinfectants. Ensure the disinfectant is on the surface/object for one minute. People should wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects and wash their hands for at least 15 seconds. If you do not have access to water and soap, use an alcohol-based sanitizer. For soft surfaces and items such as carpeted flooring, rugs and curtains, clean with appropriate cleaners indicated for use on these surfaces/items or, wash in the washing machine using hot water if possible.

 

Avoid crowds by staying away from large groups and event

 

Don’t visit: for the protection of patients, residents and staff, visitor restrictions are in effect at health care facilities across Manitoba until further notice.

 

3 - PROTECT YOUR COMMUNITY

 

Self-isolate for 14 days if you have travelled anywhere outside of Manitoba or have been exposed to someone ill with the virus.

As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, all Manitobans have a role to play in slowing its spread and minimizing its impact on the health-care system and in communities. One of the key tools to slow the spread of COVID-19 is to increase the physical space (distance) between people. Social (physical) distancing works by limiting the number of people that you, and your family, come into close contact (within two metres/ six feet).

Businesses that offer critical services where members of the public are attending the place of business, must put in place measures to ensure that appropriate social distancing rules are followed. Residents are reminded that the social distancing measures must be followed when attending to businesses or using any public space.
