Government in Niverville consists of a 5 member Council with the head of Council being the Mayor. Elections are held in accordance with the Province of Manitoba Municipal Act, every 4 years or as required by by-election to fill vacancies. The current term began in October 2018 and will end with elections in October 2022.
Members of the public are encouraged to consider running for Council. An open mind and a community passion are a great place to start. Candidates must be a Candian citizen of at least 6 months and in good standing, at least 18 years of age on the day of the election, a resident of Manitoba, and either a resident or property owner in the municipality for at least 6 months before Election Day. Nomination packages and information are available from the Town Office. Town Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month for regular Council meetings which are open to the public. The first meeting of the month begins at 9:00 a.m. and the second meeting of the month begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Niverville Centenial Arena, South End. Additional special meetings of Council are held as required along with various committee and consultation meetings as may be required. Members of the public wishing to make presentation at a Council meeting should contact the Administration Office at least 3 working days prior to Council to ensure a spot on the agenda.
